Cary Katz Holds the Chip Lead as Event #5: $10,000 8-Game Mix is Down to the Final Table

Cary Katz took the chip lead when he eliminated Kazuhiko Yotsushika in 11th place on the money bubble in over a two million chip pot. He never looked back as he maintained his chip lead to the final table. 

In the fateful hand, playing Pot-Limit Omaha, Katz faced a 555,000 chip bet from Yotsushika on the flop of . Katz used a time extension and called with , and when Yotsushika tabled , Katz was ahead and needed to hold to score the chip lead. The board ran out clean, Katz's aces held, and he rode that momentum all the way to the final table with the chip lead. 

Joining Katz at the final table is Nick Guagenti with 2,000,000, Alex Livingston with 1,450,000, Steve Zolotow with 1,160,000, Benjamin Diebold with 900,000, Jacky Wang with 430,000, and Brian Rast is the short stack with 115,000. 

Event #5 saw a field of 62 players, with the top nine players finishing in the money. The final seven players are guaranteed at least $31,000, with first-place taking home $186,000. 

Matthew Gonzales finished in 8th place for $24,800, and Andrew Brown finished in 9th place for $18,600 as they both secured their first cash of the 2022 Poker Masters. 

Carol Fuchs just missed out on her first cash of the series after she went on a wild ride as the money bubble approached. At one point, Fuchs was down to her last 60,000 only to see her stack increase all the way up to over 400,000, 

Fuchs day would end, and she would finish in tenth place to burst the Event #5 Money Bubble when her aces-up in stud hi-lo was best by the six-high straight of Wang.

When play resumes, Level 17 with the blinds at 15,000-30,000 and a 30,000 big blind ante in PLO/NLH, the blinds in limit games is 30,000-60,000, and the ante in stud games is 10,000 with the bring-in at 25,000, with limits of 60,000-120,000. The players will draw for the game and the button when play resumes.
