WSOP Europe Shakes Up PGT Leaderboard with 14 Events Remaining in 2022

WSOP Europe has concluded from Rozvadov, Czech Republic, with 15 bracelets awarded, including three that qualified for PokerGO Tour (PGT) points.

The WSOP Europe €‎25k Platinum High Roller attracted 67 entrants and created a prize pool of €‎1,565,790 that paid the top 11 players. Espen Jorstad finished in ninth place to increase his PGT points to 2,219 and strengthen his position as seventh overall on the PGT leaderboard, while Daniel Negreanu finished in fourth place to leap back into the top 21 of the PGT Leaderboard after he earned €146,370 in prize money and 88 PGT points. The eventual winner would be Malaysia's Paul Phua, who won €482,433 and his first WSOP bracelet. Phua also collected 289 PGT points and climbed into 14th place on the PGT Leaderboard.

The second PGT-qualifying event at WSOP Europe was the €‎50k Diamond High Roller which attracted 45 entrants and created a €‎2,116,125 prize pool. The final seven players finished in the money, with Daniel Dvoress being eliminated in seventh place to move back into the top 10 of the PGT Leaderboard with 2,059 PGT points. 

The marquee event of the series would be the WSOP Europe €10k Main Event. The field would swell to 763 entrants and created a prize pool of €7,248,500 that paid the top 115 players. PGT players that earned some much-needed PGT points included Kisacikoglu, Johan Guilbert, Punnat Punsri, Tom-Aksel Bedell, and Timothy Adams before the final table of eight being reached. Shaun Deeb finished third in the Platinum High Roller and Diamond High Roller, and with a top-two finish in the Main Event, he would climb into the top 21 of the PGT Leaderboard. Unfortunately for Deeb, he would collect another third-place finish as he collected €607,531 in prize money and now sits in 31st place on the PGT Leaderboard with 1,290 PGT points from eight cashes.

Stephen Chidwick Stays on Top

Many players from the PGT Leaderboard top 10 didn't make the trip to Rovzadov, Czech Republic, for WSOP Europe, and consequently, there weren't too many changes among the top 10. Espen Jorstad increased his lead over Chad Eveslage, who sits in eighth place, while Daniel Dvoress climbed into tenth place following his seventh-place finish in the €‎50k Diamond High Roller.

Stephen Chidwick retains his spot on top with 3,274 PGT points ahead of Phil Ivey (3,083 PGT points) and Jason Koon (2,833 PGT points). Michael Duek, Sean Winter, and Alex Foxen are grouped closely to round out the top six.

Looking outside the top 10, Nick Petrangelo, Paul Phua, and Daniel Negreanu all make leaps at WSOP Europe, while PGT regulars Chris Brewer, Cary Katz, and Alex Livingston sit on the outside of the PGT Championship-qualifying top 21. With 14 events upcoming in Las Vegas throughout December, more shake-ups are expected before the top 21 is set for the PGT Championship that runs from December 21-22, 2022.

What Does the PGT Winner Get?

The 2022 PGT season will culminate in the season-ending PGT Championship, which is a $500,000 winner-take-all tournament. The top 21 players on the PGT leaderboard at the end of regular-season events qualify for the PGT Championship. The winner of the 2022 PGT Championship will be crowned this season's champion and take home half a million dollars in prize money.

Starting stacks in the PGT Championship will be based on the number of points earned by a player during the regular season.

What’s Next for the PGT?

Next up for the PokerGO Tour will be a return to ARIA Resort & Casino for 13 ARIA High Roller tournaments held from inside the ARIA Poker Room. These will run from December 1-3, 5-10, and 16-20, while the $10,400 WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas will begin on December 12 and feature a $15 million prize pool guarantee. Once these final 14 events conclude, the PGT Championship will begin on December 21 with the entire tournament being streamed live on PokerGO.com.
