Samuli Sipila Crowned 2024 PGT PLO Series Champion

The PGT PLO Series presented by PLO Mastermind has crowned its newest series champion. Finland's Samuli Sipila topped the leaderboard to win the PGT Gold Cup and a $10,000 PGT Passport.

Sipila follows in the footsteps of Spaniard Lautaro Guerra and American Daniel Geeng, who were previous PGT PLO Series champions. Sipila traded the lead back and forth with his close friend and fellow countryman, Eelis Parssinen.

According to The Hendon Mob, Sipila has amassed more than $1,747,000 in lifetime tournament earnings and now sits 12th on Finland's All-Time Money List. At this PGT PLO Series, Sipila earned $776,140 in prize money and an additional $239,000 in bounties from his Event #7 win. Sipila's PGT PLO Series earnings total more than $1,015,000.

After bricking out the first few events, Sipila would kick off his PGT PLO Series campaign with a win in Event #4 for $240,300 in prize money after he defeated Stefan Christopher heads-up. Sipila followed that with a seventh-place finish in Event #6 for $34,000 in prize money before he would win his second PGT title in Event #7 for $159,840 in prize money and $239,000 in bounties. Sipila's final cash came in the Pot-Limit Omaha Championship where he finished runner-up to Seth Davies and added another $342,000 to his bankroll.

Sipila finished with 749 PGT points to be crowned the PGT PLO Series champion. In the process, he rose to third place on the PGT leaderboard ahead of Daniel Negreanu (4th), Kristen Foxen (5th), and Seth Davies (6th). He now trails only Dylan Weisman (1,047 PGT points) and David Coleman (937 PGT points). With many Pot-Limit Omaha events at the upcoming 2024 World Series of Poker and the ARIA High Roller Series, Sipila will likely add to his points tally before the Fall installment of the PGT PLO Series returns provides him with an opportunity to secure a seat in the season-ending PGT Championship $1,000,000 freeroll.

Eelis Parssinen was leading the PGT PLO Series leaderboard heading into the Pot-Limit Omaha Championship, but when Sipila made the money, Parssinen dropped to second place on the back of his two victories and four cashes also. Seth Davies rocketed to third overall with his first career Pot-Limit Omaha title, while Event #6 winner Dylan Weisman finished fourth overall. 

PGT newcomer Stefan Christopher finished fifth overall after cashing three times while event winners Ronald Keijzer and Allan Le were also in the top ten alongside Bruno Furth, inaugural PGT PLO Series champion Lautaro Guerra, and Alex Foxen.

Some of the world's best Pot-Limit Omaha players collected PGT PLO Series trophies during the series, including Poker Hall of Fame member Daniel Negreanu. Allan Le won his second career PGT Pot-Limit Omaha title to go along with his 12 PGT PLO Series' cashes. Ronald Keijzer won his fifth career PGT Pot-Limit Omaha title, and second PGT PLO Series title in the $5,100 Pot-Limit Omaha Progressive Bounty. Along with $80,275 in prize money, he won $80,000 in bounties.

Dylan Weisman continued his hot start to the year picking up his third PGT title of the season. Eelis Parssinen defended his title in the $7,600 Pot-Limit Omaha Bounty and added $32,500 in bounties to go along with his $131,325 first-place prize. He then added a second title in the $15,100 Pot-Limit Omaha for $348,600 in prize money to amount to nearly $550,000 in PGT PLO Series earnings.

Seth Davies not only cashed in his first Pot-Limit Omaha tournament, but parlayed that into a victory as well. James Calderaro won the final event of the series, and also his first Pot-Limit Omaha tournament victory since his only WSOP bracelet win in the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller at the 2017 WSOP.

The buzz and excitement for the PGT PLO Series continued for this third series, which featured 916 total entrants and 136 unique players across ten events. The PGT PLO Series presented by PLO Mastermind will return later in the year and will also include the return of the Super High Roller Bowl $100K Pot-Limit Omaha, which was won by Jared Bleznick in 2023 for $1,292,000.
