Aram Zobian Captures Second Career PGT Title in Event #6: $15,100 No-Limit Hold'em

Aram Zobian trailed Sam Laskowitz by just over 300,000 to start the Event #6: $15,100 No-Limit Hold'em Final Table of the 2024 U.S. Poker Open but vaulted into the chip lead during the second level of play and never looked back to capture his second career PGT title and $264,290. 

Play at the final table got off to a fast and furious start. John Andress got his one million chip stack into the middle of the first hand of play with ace-king, only to run square into Joey Weissman's pocket aces. Andress had outs to broadway on the river but failed to improve, and his day was done in sixth place for $51,150.  

Start-of-day short stack Dan Shak was beneficiary of Andress's early demise, but the businessman could only score the one ladder as he could get nothing going as he bowed out in fifth place for $69,750 when Brock Wilson's ace-ten outkicked his ten-nine. 

Zobian turned up the heat after the short stack was out of the picture, and the deck began to fall in his favor as he rivered a straight against Weissman's turned trips to collect 60% of the chips in play and send Weissman out the door in fourth place for $93,000. 

Zobian would once again be the beneficiary of the deck, moving up to 73% of the chips in play when his ace-nine outkicked Brock Wilson's nine-seven. Both players found a nine on the flop, but Wilson could not find a seven on the turn or river, leaving him to collect $130,000 for the third-place finish. 

Heads-up play was all Laskowitz to start the match and would eventually pull to within one million chips of Zobian as the two players briefly paused the action to discuss a deal. Following the break in the action, a deal was reached as the two players agreed to play for $20,000 and the trophy while they ICM chopped the rest. 

After the deal was reached, all the momentum swung back in Zobian's favor as he began to lean on Laskowitz and eventually got to 83% of the chips in play when he picked off the New York native river bluff with king-high. 

Zobian finished the tournament courtesy of his third cooler of the day as Laskowitz rivered trip kings only to see Zobian had rivered a flush, and he headed to the payout desk in second place for $219,310 after the earlier deal.

Zobian Takes Overall Series Lead with Two Events to Play

Event #6 saw an increase from a $10,100 buy-in to a $15,100 buy-in as a robust 62 entrants made their way through the doors of the PokerGO Studio, creating a prize pool of $930,000 with the top nine players finishing in the money and that's to his third cash of the series Zobian has moved to the top of the leaderboard with 569 points. 

Zobian now clears Event #2 winner Jesse Lonis and his three series cashes by 200 points with two events to play and could potentially lock up the added PGT Passport with a good showing in Event #7: $15,100 No-Limit Hold'em.

Victoria Livschitz's run of four straight USPO cashes and Rodger Johnson's streak of five straight USPO cashes both came to an end as neither play found a cash in Event #6, but the pair still sit in the top ten, with Johnson leading the way in third with 301 points. 

Event #6 runner-up Laskowtiz also picked up his third cash of the series and now moves into the top ten with 224 points. Daniel Negreanu picked up his second cash of the series by finishing ninth and rounds out the top ten with 180 points, as everyone is looking up at Zobian.
