Drew Amato has been covering the World Series of Poker since 2014. This year he’s covered the U.S. Poker Open and Super High Roller Bowl for Poker Central. During the 2018 Poker Masters, Amato will share his favorite images and storylines in a daily article.

For the first time in the history of Las Vegas, a Short Deck event was broadcast to a global audience. PokerGO provided a thrilling day of coverage as Dominik Nitsche, Andrew Robl, Ryan Tosoc, Maurice Hawkins, Isaac Haxton, and Cary Katz battled for the title. Here’s a photo recap of this event.

Three's a Party: The first hand of the day was very indicative of how the entire tournament played out, as Dominik Nitsche, Ryan Tosoc, and Maurice Hawkins all found themselves all-in pre flop. Hawkins, despite being the shortest stack, would win the hand with pocket kings, while Tosoc scooped the side pot, meaning all three-players would remain in contention for the title.

It's been quite the year for Cary Katz already, gathering over $4.9 Million in earnings since January. This is Katz's second Short Deck final table in the last two months, and he was all smiles as he went on to finish in 5th place, adding another $44,000 to the resume. Katz's third cash at the 2018 Poker Masters puts him in firm contention for the Purple Jacket with two remaining events.

Hawk's View: Maurice Hawkins has come a long way from grinding WSOP Circuit Events, as the Florida based pro is officially on the board with his first ever Poker Masters cash. Despite being new to short deck, Hawkins managed to navigate the tough final table and finish runner up to Ike Haxton, good for $115,000.

Playing Short Deck Poker for the very first time, Isaac Haxton took down the 2018 Poker Masters $10,000 Short Deck tournament. Haxton collected $176,000 for just the fifth outright win of his tournament career.
