Nowadays, for poker fans, there’s hardly any reason to make sure you hit up The Mirage on your visit to Las Vegas. Sure, there’s still a poker room and probably some juicy action to get into, but it’s not like it was back in the heyday of The Strip’s first mega-resort. Available on PokerGO right now, Stories from the Felt takes you back in time to when Steve Wynn’s casino changed the poker landscape as told by the likes of Mori Eskadani, Daniel Negreanu, and Steve Zolotow.

Las Vegas had seen a decline in tourism leading up to the 1989 opening of The Mirage on Las Vegas Boulevard. Steve Wynn was of the belief that by offering tourists an all-encompassing destination that included, not only gambling and good restaurants but a plethora of entertainment options and the look and feel of something so extravagant that it had to be seen to be believed, that he would make Las Vegas the center of American tourism. Now, nearly 30 years later, we can safely say that Wynn was correct.

On this episode of Stories from the Felt, Mori Eskandani talks about the overwhelming nature of The Mirage, Daniel Negreanu talks about his day-to-day grind there as an up and coming poker player, and Steve Zolotow reminisces about the gone glory of Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson running the show.
