Rock legend and the producer of Nirvana’s In Utero, Steve Albini has been a poker fan for decades, competing at the World Series of Poker for many years. Albini recorded his first cash in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud back in 2010, and last night he won that very event by defeating a final table that included plenty of big names. After Albini coolered Ferguson in a big pot with four players remaining, the rocker managed to pull away and coast into a heads-up battle versus the fearless Lisandro.

The Aussie with four Stud bracelets, winning WSOP Player of the Year in 2009, grabbed the chip lead right away and had Albini down to just 9 big bets before losing ground. The heads-up battle lasted nearly as long as the rest of the final table, but in the end, Albini was victorious taking home $105,629.

The other winner that was crowned last night went by the name of Gal Yifrach. Yifrach won his first bracelet in the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max event for $461,798. Yifrach defeated a field of 868 players and a final table that included James ‘mig.com’ Mackey, Aaron Mermelstein, Darren Rabinowitz and Ana Marquez. Notables that busted short of the final table included Jason Mercier (16th – $20,975) and Tony Dunst (13th – $20,975).

The action at the Rio today includes Day 3 of the Seniors Event, Day 3 of the PPC, the second flight of the $1,000 Double Stack, Day 2 of the $1,500 Mixed Omaha, and Day 1 of the Super Seniors Event.
