The 2018 World Series of Poker closed out the summer calendar the exact same way it started with Justin Bonomo in the winner’s circle.

The Super High Roller Bowl champion earned $5 million for his victory in May and doubled that win with a $10 million score in the Big One for One Drop. Bonomo entered the final table on the verge of all types of history along with the chip lead. The path to victory was not linear for Bonomo, who closed out the $1 million buy-in event on ESPN2.

Fedor Holz proved to be the biggest challenger toward Bonomo. The 2016 One Drop High Roller winner and 2016 Super High Roller Bowl runner-up took the lead five-handed thanks to one of the craziest hands of the year.

Byron Kaverman and Rick Salomon were both at risk but that’s not all. An exposed card, millions of dollars on the line, and the fate of two players held in the balance during one of the tensest moments in recent poker history.

Holz held the lead at the start of three-handed play but Bonomo was able to climb back into the match. Bonomo eliminated Dan Smith in third-place to set up a battle with Holz for the bracelet and buck.

By the time the match concluded, Bonomo had reclaimed the lead by picking off a Holz river bluff to jump ahead by a wide margin. Bonomo put on a new exclamation point on his campaign on the river and jumped for joy into the One Drop winner’s circle.

The win places Bonomo ahead of Daniel Negreanu on the all-time tournament money list with $42.9 million in career earnings. Remko Rinkema put Bonomo’s win in perspective after the record-breaking victory.
