The best poker tournament in the world returned to PokerGO for Day 1A of the World Series of Poker Main Event. Nearly 1,000 players showed up for the opening flight of the tournament with the full spectacle in the Amazon Room.

Relive the opening day of the two-week journey here:

A banner-worthy feature table led off the coverage with past Big One for One Drop champion Antonio Esfandiari and 2010 WSOP Player of the Year Frank Kassela sitting side by side. Esfandiari made Day 7 of the Main Event back in 2009 and started on the first day of play in the first step of his return journey.

Avoiding all-ins are paramount on Day 1 but Esfandiari found himself in danger midway through the day. Kalidou Sow is the first player in the Main Event to try and claim Esfandiari’s bounty but came up shy. This hand and more are available in the PokerGO Vault as are all archived episodes from the 2018 Main Event.

Near the end of the night, Esfandiari hit his peak thanks to pocket aces. An unfortunate opponent held pocket kings and Esfandiari was a clean board away from a healthy stack heading into Day 2. Of course, Esfandiari held and he moves into Wednesday’s play on the rocketship.

Familiar voices echoed the booth with Super High Roller Bowl commentators Nick Schulman and Ali Nejad at the desk. Schulman is expected the register the Main Event on Day 1B or 1C and a new set of pipes will jump in with Nejad.

Get caught up on the full preview of the Main Event by listening to the Poker Central Podcast with Remko Rinkema.

Day 1B is on PokerGO on July 3 starting at 12:00 am ET. A full schedule of the PokerGO Main Event schedule can be found here.
